Military explained
Classmates offers active and inactive members of all military branches an easy
way to reconnect. Classmates lists thousands of land based and afloat assignments.
To get started, simply add an assignment. To do this, Click the "Military" tab, then click
"Add Assignments" in the blue navigational bar. You will arrive at a page where you can select
the location of your assignment. Select "Afloat" for ships and vessels*. Land installations and
flying squadrons are listed under "Continental United States". If you served abroad, click the link for
"Locations Outside Continental US."
Follow the links to select the location and years of your assignment, and be sure to choose
your rank. Click "Done" and your assignment will be added to your list.
* Currently, we have over 7,500 vessels listed at Classmates. Military vessels are
listed by name, preceded by an acronym, i.e., USS, USNS, HMCS. To make sure you
list yourself with the right ship or vessel, please see our ship and vessel designation
chart to determine the appropriate category for your assignment.
