Billy Bob Thornton (born August 4, 1955) is an actor, filmmaker, singer-songwriter, and musician. He is a 1973 graduate of Malvern High School, in Malvern, AR, where he played baseball. Thornton moved to Los Angeles in the mid-1980s, landing smaller roles in several films and TV shows (including a 1987 episode of Matlock). In 1992, he achieved his first career milestone with the release of One False Move, a film which he co-wrote and in which he also starred. Several years later, he received major accolades when he wrote, directed, and starred in Sling Blade. Thornton continues to alternate between working in front of the camera and behind the scenes. He co-wrote A Family Thing (1996) and The Gift (2000) and directed All the Pretty Horses (2000). His acting credits include the films A Simple Plan (1998), Monster’s Ball (2001), The Man Who Wasn’t There (2001), Bad Santa (2003), and Friday Night Lights (2004) and the first season of Fargo (2014). Thornton is also musically talented. He has released four solo albums and is the lead vocalist and drummer for The Boxmasters (a country rock/rockabilly band). Thornton received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2004. He currently stars in the series Goliath.
