Robert Quinlan “Bob” Costas (born March 22, 1952) is a sportscaster and television host. He graduated from Commack South High School in 1970, where he served as sports editor. Costas got his start in sportscasting as an announcer for the Syracuse Blazers, a minor-league hockey team, when he was still in college. He earned his first national broadcast role in the mid-1970s, doing play-by-play for NFL games for the CBS network. In the following decade, he began working with NBC, providing play-by-play for NFL, MLB, and NBA games. In the 1990s, Costas became the prime time host for NBC’s Olympics broadcast coverage. He has also branched out to serve as host for a number of studio shows over the years, including Later and Studio 42 with Bob Costas. He is the only person in television history to have received Emmy awards for Sports, News, and Entertainment.
