Regis Francis Xavier Philbin (born August 25, 1931) is a media personality who is especially known for his work as a television talk show and game show host. He graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School, in Bronx, NY, in 1949. In his senior yearbook, it states that his favorite subjects were history and football and that his pet peeve was long lunch lines. Philbin first became known to TV audiences in the 1960s as Joey Bishop’s sidekick on The Joey Bishop Show. After co-hosting a couple of morning talk shows in the 1970s and early 1980s, he was paired with Kathie Lee Johnson (later Gifford) on WABC-TV’s The Morning Show. The program became nationally syndicated several years later as Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee. Philbin continued to host after Gifford left the show in 2000, and Kelly Ripa became his new co-host the following year (with the show renamed as Live! with Regis and Kelly). In 2004, he set a Guinness World Record for most hours spent in front of a TV camera. In addition to his very popular talk show host work, Philbin has also hosted several game shows, including Who Wants to Be a Millionaireand Million Dollar Password. His long list of acting credits includes appearances in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Diagnosis: Murder as well as the films The Bad News Bears Go to Japanand Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous.
