Kenneth Ray “Kenny” Rogers (August 21, 1938-March 20, 2020) was a singer and songwriter as well as an actor and record producer. He graduated from Jefferson Davis High School, in Houston, TX, in 1956. He was active in choir and was voted “Most Talented” his senior year. Rogers started his music career in the 1950s, performing both jazz and psychedelic rock before arriving at his successful country-pop crossover sound in the 1970s. He is one of the best-selling music artists of all time – recording and performing over a span of five decades – with number one hits including “The Gambler” and “Lady.” Rogers also starred in the popular made-for-TV movie The Gambler (and its four sequels) as well as appearing in other roles. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2013.
