Peter Paul Cetera (born September 13, 1944) is a singer, songwriter, and bass player. As a freshman, he attended Archbishop Quigley Preparatory Seminary School (in Chicago, IL). He spent the remainder of his high school years at Mendel Catholic Preparatory High School (also in Chicago), graduating in 1962. While attending Mendel, Cetera was active in student senate.
Cetera began performing with friends while in high school, playing electric bass and sometimes singing lead vocals. Then, in 1967, he joined a band called The Big Thing, which eventually changed its name to Chicago. Cetera wrote and sang many big hits for Chicago, including “If You Leave Me Now,” which brought the group its only Grammy. During his nearly 20-year tenure with Chicago, his vocals and songwriting were featured on 17 albums.
In 1985, Cetera embarked on what became a successful solo career. He released eight albums and contributed to a number of movie soundtracks, including The Karate Kid Part II (“Glory of Love”). In 2016, along with the rest of Chicago, Cetera was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
