Alice Cooper (born Vincent Damon Furnier on February 4, 1948) is a singer, songwriter, and actor. He is a 1966 graduate of Cortez High School, in Phoenix, AZ, where he lettered in cross-country. Cooper first got into music in 1964, when he was a sophomore, putting a band together with several of his cross-country teammates for a talent show.

The group ended up being the winning act and decided to make a go of it as a real band, with Cooper as lead vocalist. After attaining international fame and success, the band (called Alice Cooper after several name changes) broke up in 1974. Cooper continued as a solo act (retaining the band’s name as his own), with his 1975 debut album titled Welcome to My Nightmare.

As of 2017, Cooper — known as the Godfather of Shock Rock — has released 28 studio albums. In 2003, he was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He and his bandmates from the original Alice Cooper band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011, having had a huge influence on both the look and sound of the heavy metal music genre.

Cooper is also an avid golfer and has hosted the Alice Cooper Celebrity AM Golf Tournament since 1997.
