Bette Midler (born December 1, 1945) is a singer, actress, and comedian. She is a 1963 graduate of Radford High School, in Honolulu, HI. While at Radford, she participated in theater, was class president, and was a member of Regents Club. Midler’s performance career began off-off-Broadway in the late 1960s when she appeared in several plays. She followed this up by starring in the first professional production of Tommy in 1971. Midler started releasing solo albums soon after, beginning with The Divine Miss M (co-produced by Barry Manilow) in 1972. Over the course of her musical career, she has had several hit songs, including “The Rose,” “Wind Beneath My Wings,” and “From a Distance.” Midler is also an accomplished actress. Her big-screen debut, for which she won two Golden Globes, was in 1979’s The Rose. She is also known for her roles in Down and Out in Beverly Hills (1986), Outrageous Fortune (1987), Beaches (1988), Hocus Pocus(1993), The First Wives Club (1996), and The Stepford Wives (2004). Midler has also found time for occasional television appearances and a Vegas show (2008-2010). Starting in March 2017, she is due to star in the Broadway revival of Hello, Dolly!
