Aaron Benjamin Sorkin (born June 9, 1961) is a writer, producer, and director. He is a 1979 graduate of Scarsdale High School, in Scarsdale, NY. In addition to being a member of the drama club, Sorkin participated in chorus, school senate, and band.
Sorkin started out wanting to be an actor but soon discovered that he had a talent for writing. He scripted his first play, Removing All Doubt, in 1984. A few years later, he wrote a play called A Few Good Men. After a successful run on Broadway, the show caught the interest of Hollywood. Working for Castle Rock Entertainment, Sorkin adapted his script into a screenplay. The film was released in 1992.
Several years later, Sorkin began creating his first television series. Sports Night aired from 1998 to 2000. In 1999, his next series, The West Wing, debuted. It ran until 2006, winning many awards along the way. Among other projects, Sorkin created the series The Newsroom (2012-2014) and wrote the screenplays for The American President (1995), The Social Network (2010), Moneyball(2011), and Steve Jobs (2015).
Sorkin’s first directing project was the film Molly’s Game (for which he also wrote the screenplay), which debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival in September of 2017.
