William Henry “Bill” Gates III (born October 28, 1955) is a business leader, technologist, and philanthropist. He graduated from Lakeside School, in Seattle, WA, in 1973. While at Lakeside, a young Bill Gates became fascinated with computers and met his future business partner, Paul Allen.
He and Allen co-founded Microsoft in 1975 (with Gates dropping out of Harvard to do so), which would eventually become the world’s largest software company. While at Microsoft, Gates transitioned through several roles (including chairman, CEO, and chief software architect).
In 2000, he and his wife, Melinda, established the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, an international philanthropic organization, with a goal to eventually give away 95% of their wealth in charitable contributions.
