Courteney Bass Cox (born June 15, 1964) is an actress, producer, and director. She graduated from Mountain Brook High School, in Mountain Brook, Alabama, in 1982. Cox had her first brush with fame in 1984 when she was pulled onto stage by Bruce Springsteen in the video for “Dancing in the Dark.” That same year she also had her first acting role, in “As the World Turns.” She is arguably most famous for portraying Monica Geller on “Friends” but has had numerous other acting roles, both in television and movies. Highlights include “Cougar Town,” “Scream” (and its 3 sequels), and “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.” Cox has received many award nominations for acting.

  • Golden Apple Award for Female Discovery of the Year. 1995
  • Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series (along with her five co-stars) for “Friends.” 1996
  • Teen Choice Award for Film – Choice Chemistry for “Scream 3.” 2000
  • TV Guide Award for Editor’s Choice for “Friends.” 2000
  • Glamour Magazine’s Women of the Year Award for US TV Actress for “Cougar Town.” 2010
  • Golden Derby TV Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for “Cougar Town.” 2010
