Lionel Brockman Richie, Jr. (born June 20, 1949) is a singer, songwriter, and musician. He graduated from Joliet East High School, in Joliet, Illinois, in 1967, where he was a star member of the tennis team. Richie got interested in music in the mid ‘60s and joined the Commodores in 1968 as a singer and saxophone player. Following the success of “Endless Love,” his 1981 duet with Diana Ross, Richie left the Commodores to launch his solo career. One of world’s best-selling recording artists, Richie’s musical style ranges from funk to pop ballads.
