Raymond “Ray” Albert Romano (born December 21, 1957) is a comedian, actor, and screenwriter. He is a 1975 graduate of Hillcrest High School, in Queens, NY, and also attended Archbishop Molloy High School (also in Queens).
Romano first got into comedy in 1989, when he entered the Johnnie Walker National Comedy Search. He soon began making appearances elsewhere – as a contestant on Star Search, as a recurring guest voice in the cartoon series Dr. Katz, and doing standup comedy on Late Night with David Letterman. Early acting work included a guest appearance on The Nanny, with fellow Hillcrest class member Fran Drescher.
In 1996, Romano began starring as Ray Barone in the comedy series Everybody Loves Raymond, in the role for which he is arguably best known. This popular show ended its run in 2005. His next starring role was in Men of a Certain Age (2009-2011), a series for which he was also co-creator. He was also the voice of Manny the mammoth in the Ice Age film series. In addition to other television and film appearances, Romano has participated in the World Series of Poker and competes regularly in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am golf tournament.
More recent work has included a recurring character in Parenthood (2012-2015), a part in the 2017 film The Big Sick, and a starring role in the upcoming series Get Shorty.
