Bates first shot to fame after starring as a deranged fan in Misery<\/em>, a role for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress. Her list of acting credits is a long one and includes prominent roles in both film and television, including The Blind Side<\/em>, Dolores Claiborne<\/em>, Six Feet Under<\/em>, and several seasons of American Horror Story<\/em>. Beginning in the 1990s, she also began directing.
