After attending Garfield High School<\/a>, in Seattle, Washington, he went on to graduate from Nathan Hale High School<\/a>(also in Seattle) in 2001. Macklemore started getting into rap in high school. While at Garfield, he and some other students started a hip-hop group and released an album. His stage name was originally the name of a superhero that he invented for an art project at Nathan Hale.
