Thomas Earl \u201cTom\u201d Petty <\/strong>(October 20, 1950 \u2013 October 2, 2017) was an American singer, musician, songwriter, and actor. Petty was perhaps best known as the lead singer of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. He attended Gainesville High School<\/a>, in Gainesville, Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1976, Petty and bandmates released their first album, titled Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers<\/em>. This was followed up by the hit singles \u201cDon\u2019t Do Me Like That,\u201d \u201cHere Comes My Girl,\u201d and \u201cRefugee.\u201d In 1988, Petty and his new band, the Traveling Wilburys, released their first song, \u201cHandle With Care.\u201d This led to the group\u2019s first album, Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1. <\/em>Petty enjoyed a successful solo career as well and also made guest appearances in 1997\u2019s The Postman <\/em>and in a 2002 episode of The Simpsons<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
