Patrick's Story

My Story... Where do I start? One day when the earth was a smoking, molten rock, a bacteria figured out to reproduce..oh, maybe not that far back.. After high school, I worked for Alcan for a few years, got married to Jo-Anne Muise, and we had a son named Matthew. I had changed to working at Camera Kingston (after I worked for Blacks Cameras), and in the meantime had taken a camera repair course by correspondence. We eventually moved to Mississauga, so I could work as a camera tech for Minolta. After finding out that the guy who hired me had lied right to my face about my future salary, I started looking for other work, and got a job with the Brantford Police Force as a Civilian Forensic Identification Technician (CSI). I got that job because of my photography background. The rest of my training was completed in various courses at the Ontario Police College. I did that for 8 years, during which Jo-Anne and I split up (but not until having two more sons, Eric and Evan), after which I left Brantford temporarily and moved back to Kingston. I worked in a computer school for a while, doing internet tech support and teaching basic internet stuff, before moving back to Brantford. Once back, I worked a variety of jobs, including running a lathe, acting as a shipper receiver, and doing computer data manipulation for a company that handled large mailing lists. My current job is driving a semi-truck, doing mostly flatbed work. This is a physically demanding occupation, which at my age is quite a stretch. Throughout all these various times, I suffered from a strange and debilitating depression, as well as severe fatigue. Over the past 4 years, I have been variously diagnosed with Sleep Apnea, severe hypertension (high blood pressure), D...Expand for more
ysthemic Disorder (chronic low grade depression), a pair of benign brain tumors, and Attention Deficit Disorder. No wonder no one could figure out what was bugging me! I had surgery to have one of the tumors removed in Nov. 08. This one was crushing my pituitary gland and pushing on my optic nerve (the loss of vision is how we found the little bugger). This alleviated some of the depression, and fixed my vision. Unfortunately they couldn't get the whole thing, so I may need surgery on that one again. The other one seems to be minding it's own business, so we're just ignoring it for now. Moral: If you think there's something wrong, and your doctor(s) won't send you for tests, INSIST. Anyway, currently living in Brantford with my youngest son Evan (who's 17). Evan is currently finishing high school at St. John's College here in Brantford. Eric lives in Ottawa with his girlfriend Megan, and where he's taking a computer science degree at Carleton (and doing fabulously). Matt graduated from Western 2 years ago with a degree in music composition, with honors, and is currently in year 2 of the studio sound recording program at Fanshawe College. He lives in London Ont. with his girlfriend Sarah, who's doing her PhD in library science. Jo-Anne lives in Paris, Ont. (just a few miles away), with her daughter Naomi (my buddy), and she's just starting a university degree here in Brantford, at Laurier U. I'm planning on returning to school next year, once Evan's graduated. I'll probably be taking computer science myself. Apart from that, I'm getting old and fat like most of us, and looking forward to maybe hearing from some old high school friends. Well, I've probably missed a whole whack of stuff, but I'll figure that out later.. Cheers!
