Jim's Story
2016 began my second year of retirement. Still adjusting, probably means I was too wrapped up in work. Enjoying the grandkids, six of them, and doing a little travel, seeing the Western world. Ireland, England, Germany, and Greece/Turkey (almost didn't make it back to the ship in Ephesus, Turkey, they held me captive at the silk rug place until I negotiated a price on a beautiful rug. To my surprise they had sent the buses on, so I was at their mercy...but tough negotiations got me a great price...they sped me back to the docks, our tour guide was waiting with the ship's captain at the gangplank. behind.).
Ephesus was grand, Roman ruins well preserved. We walked on the same road Anthony and Cleopatra used on their triumphant return to Rome. Ephesus was also where St. John and Mary retreated to after the Crucifixtion, we toured their home and Baptismal pool on top of a high hill, well guarded by the Turks. The Pope visited the site in the 1990's, the road up the hill was paved for his visit.
England was my second best trip, The Tower of London was amazing, all the intrigue and history, all the famous prisoners, the Crown Jewels are indescribable, the churches, palaces, graves, all the names we know, Oxford, Stratford on Avon...if you get the chance to travel, do it!
