Jeffrey Arlen's Story

Life I earned my BA in '81 and my JD in '87 and practiced law in both Connecticut and New York for 10 years. I was appointed a Suffolk County District Court Judge in 1998 and then elected as County Court Judge [NY] in 1998. After 9 months in a major crime trial part in handling homicide, burglary, robbery, sex offenses etc., I was then assigned "temporarily" to Family Court (this became a 6 year experience) to handle cases involving severe child abuse and neglect, child custody, domestic violence, juvenile delinquents, the drug treatment court and deadbeat parents. In January of 2006 was designated an acting Justice of the New York State Supreme Court in a civil trial part (auto accidents, malpractice, foreclosure, real estate, slip & fall, etc.). In November of 2008 I was re-elected on all 5 ballot lines to a second 10 year term as County Judge. I married in 1985 and have three daughters (ages 20, 17 and 13). Both of my parents have passed away (2002 & 2003) and as the oldest of three brothers, I find myself the "head" of the family (one brother has two sons, the other has one son). p busy with my cars and spend my spare time going to Vermont and traveling in Europe. School Ken Clark, Paul Joy and Greg Thompson (died in 1988) were my biggest inspirations. The most fun...the time Max and I completely wrapped up the Quarter House in toilet paper on Devil's Night; the time we stretched fishing line across Copse Road and a few dirtbags drove right into it and were scared half to death; the time Stu Jules and I snuck over to Longshore Lane and watched through the large living room window as Jack looked at game shows on television; the time we put logs under the wheels of Ken Clark's Volkswagen; the time we wheeled Jack Dwyer's old Saab wagon to the other side of the Grove after he came in tanked one night; the time Bob O'Brien showed us how to soak logs outside the Pearlman House in sodium silicate so Harry Klein would stop stealing them (it worked); the time Sorkin and I tossed Renior into the sticker bushes behind the Middle House; the time Seffer cleaned out the hot coals from the Redlich fireplace and put them into a plastic bag; Bob Francis and his drunken driving school.
