John's Story
6/22/18
Well, today marks 25 years my husband I have been an item. Our first date, in Denver, CO...met at the airport and went out from there.
We are both retired now. Larry was diagnosed with Parkinson's in August 2013. It has changed our journey with life. I retired to take care of him...24/7/365. I'm with him to the end...and it will be sooner than later with his now approaching 86 years old next month. In our marriage vows it stated: "...in sickness and health" and I'm holding to it. It is really tough at times to see this once very educated (MBA), professional (pilot), veteran (USAF 20 years) decline in health...his cognitive issues are becoming more and frequent. Even having physical therapy he always walks with assistance via cane, walker or wheelchair. I love him, but it can be heart breaking and frustrating in dealing with insidious disease.
Due to Larry's health and a change in plans I was not able to attend our 45th BHS reunion. Got plenty of pictures and comments off of Facebook that really were welcomed. Maybe,I be there for the 50th?
Dealing with some sciatica issues again. Feeling better than two months ago. Able to walk more and more pain free.
Since 1997 we have had 6 miniature schnauzers. The last four being rescues...they really make the house a home. Love them all, call them my furry kids. We currently have three...ages 10, 10, and 8. Two females, one male. The 10 yo male is my little buddy Pete. Always has to be within eyesite and close by, normally suggles close in touch. The other two girls play constantly or most of the time as I write this. They love their walks and treats. As of about 2 years ago, I started grooming our pets. Have a tables, professional clippers and all...not still the best, but working on keeping them looking good.
Really don't do much of anything except take care of Larry, the home and kids...might go to a movie at times, but pretty much home bodies.
My Mom passed on 6/29/2014, Sister Cathy 1/30/2016, Dad 8/19/2017. One day at a time is what I still go by and have been sober and clean since 5/1/81. Believe is a loving God, Karma and trying to be kind to one another. Hope and pray for world peace...yeah, it sounds corny, but sure look forward to more love and peace on this planet and universe.
Until next time.
Life
SO, it is May, 2011. THe Ephifany about a RV turned to dust (unless I come up with a inheritance I'm not aware of). Then we decided next to do a B&B...that remains to be developed. Just got a job working in the fitness industry. Marketing, graphics and computers. Behind the scenes with currently 3 different gyms in Aurora, CO. Committment in signing up with them is to work out at least 3 times a week. NOW that should get me back in shape! Don't cha think??? Long overdue in carry around in excess of 50lbs!!
Doing another garden this summer from seedling in our basement then transferring them over to my sis' property (11 acres) to a 40'x60' garden again. Some seedlings are already 8" tall! Check...Expand for more
out my photo dairy on FB if you want to see the progress.
Partner Larry (since 1993), travel with an OLD RV nationally...also like to travel internationally every so often, pets - three miniature schnauzers, keep in contact with classmates mainly through email. Have lived in Colorado since 1980 - love it! SO? What about you?
School
Continuously going to some type of seminar or class off and on - knowledge is power!
College
I started going to Metropolitan State College in August 1981 after sobering up from drugs and booze. Took me 12 years to complete since I would take 3 classes, drop 2, take off a semester, take 2 classes drop 1 and so. Finally in 1990 I looked at my transcripts of 9 years and completed 36 hours. Inside myself I thought, OK lets get this done! August 1993 finally completed my undergrad and went directly over to Germany to start on a MBA in International Business...did not even attend the ceremony! Have yet to complete a my Master's at this writing...might not ever?
Workplace
Started out working in the grocery business both retail and wholesale...went to a computer technical school...stayed with computers for awhile. Realized I could not advance without a degree. Went back to school. Working in accounting dept with Oil & Gas for awhile, off/on doing temp work with computer stuff. Lots of fun working with the airlines for 7 years, then furloughed. Traveled nationwide about a year training customers on a banking software. Have been an independent PartyLite Candle Consultant over 10+ years. Got my Colorado Real Estate License in 2004. Was a Marketing Director with K-Designers (Windows Division). Trade Show Tech Lead where I travel nationwide setting up and training people on a software application at mainly Food Trade Shows. Off and on due to Federal disasters work as a contractor with PARR Inspections (contractor with FEMA). Planning stages building the B&K Operations - RV Park and Campground, then a ranch/resort. Now as stated in life that I will be working in the gym/fitness industry doing marketing/graphics/computers.
Military
I was going into the Army, but Mom would not co-sign for me while in high school. Took a test for the USAF and don't remember why I did not go in. Actually signed up for the US Navy in a black-out from drinking and drugging. Delayed enlistment for 3 months due to my computer background to get into a certain school for training purposes as a computer specialist? working with with classified material. Then I sobered up and OMG! I was 26 yo and they wanted to tell me when to sh*t, shower, and shave. B.S. on this I said, did not even finish boot camp! I AM GAY! Let me out! They did. I mean they just could not deal with "my kind" due to morale of other troops and unit...was willing to serve, but they did not want me...well most of them did not want me...some did not even give a sh*t about it! Ah, well, live and learn. Wonder what would have happened if I stayed in the closet like some of my other friends did?
