Jim's Story
Life
What can be said? After high school, I moved to Alaska with my best friend (Bob VanMarel) and pretty much have stayed here since. I admitted to myself at about age 19 that I'm gay, and got on with life. I've been in a committed relationship with the same person since 1983. We live a very normal, somewhat boring life. I love Alaska, but long for the warmth of Southern California. We travel quite a bit, mostly for work, but a lot for fun as well, so I get my sunshine that way. I am usually in SoCa (Palm Springs) 2x a year.
I've had about three different careers, but have stayed pretty close to the Computer world in each. I ran an Internet Company for a while, a Telecommunications Engineer, and currently am in technical sales.

ere were good times, like Frosh / Soph years, band, drama, etc. But after I made the mistake of starting to work instead of enjoying school, I felt like a fish out of water. If I had to do it all over again, I would NOT WORK. It's just not worth it.
Workplace
Work - it's what I do! I've been in the high tech sector for most of my working life. From systems management, to Telecommunications Engineering, to technical sales. I like the sales side of the world because it's not as much 7x24 as engineering or systems work was. I get to go home and seldom do people call me at 3:00AM wanting to buy more stuff. Working in Alaska is unique in itself. Small town feel in a huge geographical area. I've been in Technology Management for 10+ years now. Senior Operations Manager. I love my job and the career path I've followed.
