George's Story
Life
After graduating from WILBY in 1959, I actually went back to Wilby for a 5th year to get courses that I needed to go to college. I attended Springfield College in Massachusetts and after graduating in 1964, I began teaching in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School School District on Long Island. I taught at Jerusalem Ave. Junior High for 21 1/2 years before it closed due to declining enrollment in 1986. Then I began teaching at Grand Ave Middle School where I still taught Science and coached soccer, basketball, and baseball. Over the summers from 1960 until 1997, I worked at Camp Wonposet on Bantam Lake. There I continued to work side by side with John McKenna the former Wilby basketball coach until he retired in about 1986. I love theatre and see almost everything on Broadway and off and frequently travel to London to see more as well as friends who live in Epsom.
In June, 2004, I retired from teaching after 39 1/...Expand for more
2 years. For my retirement , my friends at school arranged a party bus and tickets for 20 of us to take a trip up to Fenway Park to see my beloved Red Sox---and they won.
Since retiring, I have taken to writing and improving my golf----boy, does it need improving. I have shared some of my stories with friends and generally get good responses from them. Will I ever publish anything? I guess that I would like to sometime but that is hard to do. If anyone would like to read a story, let me know.
