Adele's Story

Thank you for reading my story! All of my fond childhood and school memories include you. You all were a big part of my growing up to become the person I am today. I hope to hear back from you and learn about your lives over these past years. Went into the Air Force about a year after high school and was stationed in Riverside, California. It was a terrific experience - both the Air Force and southern California in the late 60's. Married someone I met in the Air Force, moved to Kansas (his hometown) for 7 years, unfortunately was very ill for most of those years, finally got well, and then moved back to Southern California. Lived in Del Mar, California, a gorgeous beach town just north of San Diego, for almost 20 years. Completed the Information Systems Management program at the University of California, San Diego and worked for Fujitsu for many years as a Product Manager for their retail technology product line. Traveled extensively and worked closely with most of the major retailers across the country - a very rewarding and heady experience. Even went to Japan, a very beautiful, but crowded country. The business travel allowed me to visit friends and family in Michigan about once a month. My Mom died of leukemia in 1989, which was not only devastating but a real eye-opener for me in terms of how I want to live my life. Divorced in 1995 and moved back to Michigan to be with the family and friends that I had so deeply missed all those years. Marcy Talmage (now Thompson) and I have been close friends since we were about 3 or 4 years old and it is so wonderful to now live only 6 miles away from her. Gail Wilmarth (Brown) and I have also become very close friends since I moved back - she is the sister of my soul and such an amazing person. Because the job market is so very different here than in California, I went back to school upon moving back here and got a BA in Business Administration from Davenport University in 1997. I've continued working in information technology as both a project manager and business analyst for various companies in this area. Have my own little company of one (me!) and work on a contract basis. In 1998, I built a house on family land around the corner from my Dad's little farm (near the intersection of 12 mile and old Alpine Ave). Marcy's husband, Pete, is a builder. So over a bottle of my Dad's incredibly good homemade wine, she and I designed the house that Pete built and in which I now love living. rks for the local flooring company and did my tile and carpet. Another classmate has an electrical company and did the wiring. Building my home with help from old friends was an amazingly good experience. What do I do for fun? What's that? Feels like my life is work at work and then come home and work at home! I do love my work (business), so it doesn't really feel that much like work. I really enjoyDean Koontz books, do a little painting with acrylics, occassionally write short stories, love to target shoot (any kind of gun is a thrill), am a maniac for driving the little go carts, and deeply love all the glorious nature in beautiful, beautiful Michigan. Not dating anyone. The whole dating scene is just too weird at this age, but I'm certainly not averse to meeting new people and love to catch up with old friends. Have become a cat lady...more by default than by choice. First, someone dumped two kittens at my house about 6 years ago and then the children of a friend rescued a cat that they couldn't keep, so I now have three. They are great company, very entertaining, provide lots of love and cuddles, plus keep me very busy cleaning cat hair off everything and treasure hunting for hairballs! My Dad is now 82 and has some health issues, but is doing remarkably well. He had a kidney transplant 3 1/2 years ago, which has really improved the quality of his life. Years of dialysis left him with some permanent issues, but he keeps going like the Energizer bunny and does nap alot to recharge his batteries! Gail, Marcy, Dan Parks, Mike Metzger, Kathy Blouuw, Marsha Chapman, Mike Klenk, and Mike Reister have been the 'project team' for the past 2 class reunions. Gail and I have been acting as the 'project managers'. Unfortunately, both Gail and I were too busy last year to get a 40-year reunion put together. Should we have one before the 45th? What are your thoughts about when to have the next one? Would you like to be on the project team? We could really use more help. If you have access to Microsoft Word, I can send you the update booklet that was assembled for our 30-year class reunion. It contains life updates written by our classmates. Let me know if you are interested. Also, let me know if you would like the email addresses for some of our other classmates (don't have them all). To my Air Force friends...I would love to hear from you. Those years at March AFB were incredibly special and I think of you all very often. I kept my married name and go by my given first name - Adele Davis, so you can find me in the phone book.
