Sidney's Story
Life
In 1981 I had sort of an "Orange County" (the movie) experience where I really thought I wanted to go to Stanford Medical School, and didn't get in, in part because I arrogantly blew off the med student interview. Instead I ended up at the University of Hawaii John A Burns School of Medicine, lived at home, and thought my life had ended.
Then I met Stacey Kwai Lan Lee, who grew up two valleys east of me in Aina Haina but whom I had never met until we arrived at a Catholic weekend retreat together. Stacey bore me three children, whom I dee...Expand for more
ply love, of course, and has become my soulmate. For the most part we get along well together, and all in all I can't complain about the life we have, not at this particular moment.
My experience so far tells me that there definitely is some kind of Plan and that I sure as heck can't predict all the twists and turns of how it'll work out (eg, Texas?!). Still, I believe it will all turn out nicely in the end. I sometimes wonder how it would be to have more fame and fortune, but I'm thankful for what I have now, which feels like it's just enough.
