Fred's Story
My retirement began as of March 2010 after I reread Retirement 101 and learned why I must stop working and deal with golf, and/or sailing all day, every day. Nope! I started mixing some of my retirement days by visiting our representatives in both the House and Senate at the Capital, Washington DC and visiting representativesâ local offices back home in New Jersey.
However, with over 40 years of windshield time in cars and airtime flying for several pharmaceutical companies, I learned that I had to further switch gears from golf carts that are restricted to golf courses, and from sailboats that are restricted to the waterways. My daily diet now includes not only a little politics, some golf and sailing, no flying, but now includes lots of usage of a new Airstream RV that navigates easily beyond the local scene into a whole new world of popping into top notch RV parks and Marriot Hotels. My wife and I are doing this along the entire North and South East Coast and to eventually include the entire country to the West Coast and across to the shores to Prince Edward Island...Expand for more
and far beyond.
An accumulation of positions as account executive, sales manager, and vice-president have now been used by joining WBCCI, an Airstream International travel club. Now a whole new world of travel using accumulated points earned at Marriott Hotels from forty years of representing pharmaceutical companies. Now IâÂÂm serving as Vice-President of the WBCCI, NJ Unit, headquartered in Cape May, NJ. I anticipate a vote to move to the position of President at our October 2011 meeting. I do continue taking consulting positions only if the work does not interfere with our traveling initiatives.
IâÂÂve now stopped interviewing for any pharma positions and I have begun to face the facts of retiring and utilize the combination of my bank of travel points along with my driving skills to tow an aluminum colored hotel room behind a black SUV. And my beautiful wife, Anne, and I love it! And, Anne has now accepted that it is just fine to check into a Marriott Hotel and park our entire rig in the parking lot and enjoy a real hotel room. Now that is traveling 1st class.
