Janet Louise's Story
Life
After graduating in '71 from NYU, I spent the summer in Europe bumming beds from former classmates whose husbands were stationed in strategic places. I married that fall upon my return and moved to Ohio where I lived until 1994 when I moved to Philadelphia to work at Penn.
Remarried in 1999, we left our Philadelphia life in 2004 and went in the Peace Corps -- teaching English in Kazakhstan. Now we grow mushrooms in Vermont, (not the hallucinagenic ones). I'm writing a book about our time in Kazakhstan -- a much misunderstood country.
College
I started out thinking I'd be a missionary nurse. The missinary part dropped off first, after Bible school. The nursing part dropped off after a year in nursing school. I wound up at NYU, majoring in sociology...Expand for more
, which I love. I eventually got a master's in sociology at Kent State University when I was living in Ohio, raising my sons. I also did four years there toward a Ph.D. in poli sci, but did not finish.
Work Life
I spent a few months selling real estate before my first son was born. Realized I like work that was more collegial. Got into fund raising after I got my masters and stayed in teh fund raising/development field until 1999 when I stared a second career as a psychotherapist. That ended five years later when I became an English teacher for Peace Corps Kazakhstan. I'm now (and have been over the years actually) a writer. I've published one book -- a textbook on Stuttering. Look it up on Amazon.com. I plan to never check off "retired" on applications.
