Jo Ann's Story

Life In 2001, my husband and I retired from education after 30+ years of teaching. I was the library media coordinator for our district's 10 elementary school library/media centers. Now that we are retired my husband and I do a lot of traveling in our camper van in the U.S. We enjoy camping and hiking and I just recently tried backpacking with a 30 lb. pack on Isle Royale. We enjoy biking on trails in Wis. and Minn. We also enjoy gardening, fishing, kayaking, collecting antiques, and reading. One of our two daughters lives in Wis. and the other lives in NYC. Both are artistic. Sadly, our son Matthew passed away in Oct., 2004 ...Expand for more
at the age of 33. No grandchildren yet, but one daughter, Melissa, Matt's twin, is married. Now it is 2010 and we are still enjoying all the activities above. I made my final trip to Isle Royale last spring. I will still backpack, but to other not so rugged & wild places. We visited Australia a few years ago - our dream trip. Now we are looking forward to going on safari in Africa. But, of course, in the winter we are on the trails cross country skiing - and working in the schools, Don- subbing at the high school, and me teaching Jr. Great Books classes, afterschool classes, and working on the state Battle of the Books committee.
