Darlene's Story
Shortly after I graduated from Sumter High, I gave birth to a healthy baby boy. I enrolled and graduated from Central Carolina Technical College. I then graduated from Morris College and became a teacher. After five years of teaching in Sumter, my son and I moved to Georgia. I decided to move ten years after I graduated from high school because I finally got the courage to leave my support system (family and friends). I also felt that I needed the personal and financial growth that I would achieve by moving to another city. I am currently a third grade teacher.

did not exactly turn out the way I expected it. One surprise is that I haven't had any more children. Another surprise is that I had the courage to leave SC as a single parent. My biggest surprise is that I exercise a lot! People in the gym often assume that I was a jock in high school or that I am a fitness fanatic! Surprisingly, I think of exercise as a part time job, I don't especially like it all the time. In fact, there are times when I have to push myself to exercise. Like a job, it may not be the most exciting thing to do at all times, but the benefits are great!
