Tony's Story

First off, I wanna say I think we need a reunion (Alta high), last one was 15 years ago and we're looking at 30 years now! Prior to and during high school I did a few interesting things, the most extraordinary of which was my involvement with the old KCPX AM radio station. My Sunday school teacher was Dan Jessop (aka Chad O Stevens), and he asked me if I wanted to kind-of be his roadie when he did DJ gigs for KCPX. Well for a teenager this was a dream, got to hang around at the radio station, meet all the DJs, like Skinny Johnny Mitchell, Wooley Waldron, etc. Then they asked me to be the mascot, the KCPX Weiner, and wear a large hot dog costume (sans bun) to concerts, Salt Palace events, and a bunch of 25 cent gas pours. I had to keep my identity a secret so the only one who knew was my family and one or two friends. I also got tons of free tickets to concerts, awesome! After high school I had a couple of jobs doing post high schoolish stuff, like delivering parts for an A/C shop, dispatching repair appointments, lugging around 80# sacks of salt, and working with various and sundry acid and cyanide compounds. I also did some mobile DJ stuff with my buddies, which was tons of fun. Then I went on an LDS mission to Alabama, which was a life changing experience (for the people of Alabama and probably for the church in general). I got a lot of support from friends and family while on my mission, I have the greatest friends! When I got back I did some more mobile DJ stuff, and worked at a few different jobs. I started to get into computers, and had a very interesting job for several years at a research facility working with high tech ceramics (Ceramatec). I got paid to do some very cool stuff there, like breaking things to test their strength, ru...Expand for more
nning an electron microscope, screen printing platinum and rhodium on ceramic tape, and various experiments to optimize ceramic properties. Okay, sounds geeky, but it was pretty fun for a geek like me. I also got various personal computers at that time and started to learn to program in BASIC (not Visual Basic, that wasn't out yet). Through different opportunities at work, and a few stray classes at Utah Tech (now SLCC) I started to use computers professionally. I married in 1994 and had three children (not all at once!), Sarah in '87, Chris in '88, and Matt in '90. In '92 my marriage went south and I divorced shortly afterward, moving west while she remained east (okay, we all still live in the Salt Lake valley). I later met and married my wife Ann, who taught me what it is like to be totally in love like in the movies (I always thought that was hogwash, but now I understand those movies)(anyone know what hogwash is?)(is this proper punctuation?). Anyway we have been married going on 14 years and are still twitter pated (whoa, that passed spell checking). Ann has one son, Steve, from a previous marriage, and sadly we don't have any children together (not by choice). Got more and more into computers, especially database development and application programming. I started doing that full time, first at Bard Access Systems, a medical device company, then at Hexcel, 3M, and currently at XanGo. Finished my Bachelors Degree in Business Information Systems at the University of Phoenix in '00 and have enjoyed the geek work for years since. I enjoy travelling, dancing with Ann, skiing, old movies, playing euro games with friends, and spending time with grandkids (we have three). That's it, hope you enjoyed the bio, looking forward to reading yours!
