Billy Dean's Story
Life
After graduation from Symsonia High in 1979, I attended Paducah Community College and began working toward a Physical Therapist license. Due to 'bad' advice from my academic advisor, I failed to apply to the University of Kentucky at the appropriate time, and could not get into the program there. My option was to sit and wait for another year, and then only hope I could get into the program. I had taken 2.5 years of courses to prepare me for becoming a P.T. After becoming so frustrated, I began working at the Ky. Oaks Mall and worked at J.C. Penney for approximately 2.5 years. It was becoming evidently clear to me that if I didn't continue my education, I would never make the kind of money that I so desired. d with a B.S. degree in Manufacturing Engineering Tech, and an A.S. in Mechanical Engineering Tech. A year after getting out of school, I became employeed with Apex Engineering, Inc. in Calvert City where I remain employeed to this day.
I have never married, nor do I have any children. I live on the family farm in a home that was constructed by my great-grandfather.
UPDATE: July 20, 2001
In April of this year, I was laid off of work from my employer of 11+ years. I found that senority or experience didn't matter anymore. However, having prior knowledge that something drastic was going to happen, I had enrolled in Massage Therapy School in Mayfield. This month, I received my Certification, and am now a Certified Massage Therapist. I plan to continue the education and eventually take the National Certification Exam.
