Marlene's Story

Life Born (while living in Eagle, ID) at St. Lukes in Boise, ID & raised in Caldwell, Idaho, and was able to graduate from HS with one semester after moving to Santa Barbara. My father & mother both were teachers and had moved around Idaho and Washington through the years my 3 older brothers were in school. After we moved to Caldwell the parents bought a small grocery store and eventually that was sold as bigger stores came in the area. Dad continued to teach until his retirement. Our stay in SB was short as a family. After I worked awhile at the 1st American Title Co. the parents moved back to Caldwell. I stayed a few years and returned later to Idaho, also. I have lived in Idaho and Washington since then. I was married in 1966 and divorced in 1986. Nikki and I left to live in Lewiston with family. We lived in Lewiston, Idaho, until I met and married a great guy from Washington. We lived in Orofino, Idaho, until he retired from the US Forest Service. We moved to St. John in 1997 and love it here. It is like we both moved "home again." I still do solo work at church - really like small groups such as trios, quartets, etc. We have a small RV and have traveled lots since June 2003. I have been able to go back and sing with Tapestry again (a group of 20 women) for awhile now. Looking forward to the 16th of January to begin a new set of music for concerts in May 2007. Now it is June 15, 2007, and I will not be able to continue singing w/Tapestry in the fall. The concerts went well, but for me the eyesight problems with Myasthenia Gravis have made it necessary to quit the group. ...Expand for more
I will miss that more than I can tell anyone. The neurology specialist has me on a prescription therapy which is difficult (in the middle of doing this) because it effects my hearing. Boom boxes of music around me were never a favorite and now I don't even get a choice. Everything reverberates with the steroids I am taking. Great fun! Should improve thru the summer, I am told, as the dosage decreases. Yeah!! let's get there. In the meantime, we will go camping....enjoy the Michael family reunion in Kettle Falls....Baker get-together to celebrate Duane & Virginia Baker's 50th anniversary up above Sandpoint last of this month. I can cope best if I am not trying to hear more than 2-3 persons at once, so you can see I hide out occasionally. more later.... hah!! absurd as this sounds, i made changes of the worst side. now i can only use my right hand for anything 'cause i broke my left wrist n elbow to "smithereens" a technical term the surgeon used. i'm even quoting him. that was last september 28, 2007. that surgery wasn't enough 'cause the bone grafting needed re-doing. that was january 17, 2008 for another surgery. i have hardware taken out n replaced for others in both areas for show-n-tell. anyway. i don't recommend falling backwards in your own kitchen trying to water a plant near the skylight. the plant still is growing n thriving (i gave it away...) n i am doing lots of therapy daily at home w/my husband running my arm here n there. also treatments at the clinic. that makes me current n up to date. we plan on getting out in the countryside asap. more later....marlene
