John McGuinness:  

Life After graduating from Detroit Catholic Central HS in 1963, I attended Catholic U. in Washington, DC and got a BA in Physics; I also met Rosy, and we married in 1969. From college I entered the Marines in 1967, served as a HAWK missile and embarkation officer in California and Vietnam, and went on to graduate school at U. of Chicag0 to get a MA in Philosophy. I entered the Foreign Service in 1972, with postings to Izmir, Turkey, Washington, DC and Madrid, Spain. I worked as an analyst at the CIA from 1985 to 1989, then returned to the State Department as a foreign affairs officer in the Civil Service to work on UN agencies dealing with nuclear energy, environmental, economic and social affairs. Meanwhile, Rosy and I raised two sons, John and Mike, and a daughter, Dawn, who in turn produced our first two grandchildren, Aidan and Siena. John and his wife Brenna later adopted two little boys from Ethiopia, adding to the next generation of McGuinnesses. We're still living in the Washington, DC area. I retired from the State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Research at the end of 2009, and now teach Philosophy part-time at Northern Virginia Community College. Rosy is also retired from working, first with Fairfax County, then Loudon County, as an administrator for special education programs.
