Kimberly's Story

Life Hello Everyone ! Here is a little bit about myself. I was born in Orlando, adopted at two weeks old from the Catholic Church. I was brought up in a family of 4 children, I was the youngest. We moved to Lakeland when I was a toddler. Then, we moved out in the country the summer before my 4th grade. I started playing the Flute in the 6th grade at Mulberry Middle School. I started taking private Flute lessons in the 8th grade and I already knew in the 9th grade that I wanted to study the flute so I transferred schools my Junior year to Lakeland High School, because it had a great Music program. Graduated from Lakeland High in 1985 with honors. I chose to study at Florida State Univ. School of Music, however because my SAT scores were not good, they accepted me as an exception. I had to take placement tests and ended up attaining 3 credits for Math before I even started. That was great! I also received a ¾ scholarship to study the flute. Super! FSU was great, loads of fun and I learned a lot! I married a trumpet player the summer of 1988 before my senior year. And after we graduated in 1989, me with my Bachelors in Music Performance and him with his Masters in Music Performance, we moved to Naples, FL to play and work. In Sept.1991 we moved to Hof, Germany to play in the Symphony Orchestra and he played in the “Rekkenze Brass Quintet”. We had planned on staying for 2 years to collect experience, but GOD had another plan. On New Years Day 1992 my husband asked for a divorce, he said “ You deserve somebody better then me.” At the time I thought my whole world was falling apart. I was living in Germany, couldn’t speak the language, no family and I just had a few friends. However, I decided to stay and continue to play in the Orchestra. At the end of that Sept. I received a phone call from an American who was living in Hof. He invited me to attend the church were he worked , at the time the Pastor was preaching in English and his wife was translating. There, I started to learn a little German. However, it was Bible German and I couldn’t hold a conversation with my new vocabulary. By the way, the name of the church is “Berg Zion” (“Mount Zion”), on the 1st Sunday in December ’92 I gave my Life to JESUS and was changed in an instant! The following week I received a vision from GOD, there I was singing for HIM! Until then I had never sang, never even considered it. So, I started singing the following Easter in their Worship Group, that Easter I sang my first solo. So, the divorce was final in Jan.1993, my ex returned to Florida and I stayed to play in the Orchestra and the Worship Group, I had a new family in Hof. Well, it was March 20th, 1994 when I first met my husband in the church after a evening service. We knew it was GOD’s will, so we got married October 1st , 1994 and moved to Weissenstadt, his town of birth. We are very happy! My husband is a Dipl.Bau Ing. (FH), that is a building or construction Engineer approx. an American Masters degree equivalent. He plays classical guitar, piano and composes. We produced our 1st CD in 1998. However, we have not had any time since then. No time for a new CD, but I’m sure the next one will come and be better than the 1st. By the way, I stopped playing in the Orchestra in ’95...Expand for more
so we would have time together and started working part-time in the Family Construction Co. and part-time teaching Flute at a city run Music School in another city. We founded a church in Hof in 2000, you can see for yourself at bgg-hof.de . Last but not least, when I moved to Germany in ’91 all I brought with me was my dog (“Ashlee”a sib.Husky I saved from hot Florida), she is now 13 years old and still beautiful. I’ll end here now. I hope you enjoyed it. I thank GOD for everything! And may GOD bless you! Kim May30th 2003 Workplace After I finished college in 1989, we moved to Naples, FL to work for awhile. I started working as a receptionist at my father-in-laws Beauty Shop “ Hair Design International” in the Marco Island Beach Resort Hotel. At the same time, I was working as a substitute Flutist in the Naples/Marco Philharmonic and later in the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra. I stopped working at the Shop in 1990 and was only playing and teaching at the time. I toured with the Gateway Theatrical Touring Co. from 3/91-8/91 as the solo flutist. Moved to Germany on the 7th of Sept. following my, at the time, husband who had gotten a position with a Brass Quintet in Hof, Germany. We separated 4 months later and divorced one year later. I submitted my resume to the Orchestra and was then allowed to act as permanent substitute/extra flutist mainly piccolo playing with the Hof Symphony Orchestra. Started playing with them in Jan. 1992. I stopped playing in the Orchestra in 1994, because I got married and wanted to spend time with my husband. Played solo concerts in the area, but I wasn’t working full-time. I was asked to teach flute at a music school in Kulmbach, Germany. The director of the school got my name recommended from the music school director in Hof. I didn’t look for the job, I was just offered it. I’ve been working there ever since April 1996. I enjoy teaching. Then, the same year I was asked to direct the cities Evang. Church Choir. Because, I have a degree in music they were sure I could do it. So I started teaching the choir, just until they could find somebody else. I was there for 3 years. Then I was asked again to take over another choir in a neighboring town. The name of the choir is the “Singgemeinschaft Marktleuthen” I’ve had them now since March 1998. All along since 1995 I’ve been working part-time in my husbands family business, it is a Construction Co.. I have even learned to draw plans using CAD. It’s true. Furthermore, my husband and I have founded with 3 other couples in 2000, what they call in Germany a Free Evang. Lutheran Christian Church. You can check it out at bgg-hof.de . My husband and I are the worship leaders there and often in other places too. We also produced our first CD called “Vater Unser Im Himmel” trans. “Our Father in Heaven” in 1998, it is a worship CD. Many ask us, when will the next one come, but my husband has been too busy for the last few years, however we hope we will have more time for a new CD in the near future. It is now Feb. 2014 and you can find me on facebook or the web if you google my name. We now live in Switzerland and serve the Lord in czs.ch . This year is our 20th Wedding Anniversary! Hope to see you on FB soon. Take care!
