Sean's Story
Life
After school I bummed around a while; worked here and there; lived in Alexandria for a bit. Next I joined the Army in 1993 and was based in FT.Drum, NY. Got to see a little bit of the world, some of which you wouldn't want to see(Somalia, Haiti)and ended up with a bad back and ankle out of the deal, but all in all it wasn't too bad (and my back and ankle are now paying for school). Also got married in '93 and now have 2 daughters and a son whom I have realized are what life is all about (at least for me). After the Army I did some roofing for a short time, then started working at IBM. Bought a house in Zumbro Falls in 2001 and am in the neverending process of home improvement(slowly getting there). Started college in 2002 after getting cut from IBM (man I hated that place) and things are going pretty well. I have a little over 2 years to go for my 2 BS degrees (I always was pretty good at BS :). I'm double majoring in Computer Science and Computer Information Systems and am taking life as it comes. Started interning as a software tester in '05 and am enjoying it. Life seems to be working out pretty good so far and the future looks even better, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed and spending all the time I can with Brenna, Dillon, and Bridget.
Update - looking like divorce. Found out recently that I was doomed from the start. Tough thing to do at this stage of the game but whadya do? So I guess I've taken enough lumps and I'm done. Oh well, it was mostly a lot of fun while it lasted.
School
Had a whole lot of fun. Goofed off way too much. Didn't study enough. Spent a lot of time acting like an idiot (trying to be cool, and generally failing). Wish I knew then what I know now, but I still wouldn't trade it for anything. Sure wish I was in shape like that again.
College
Currently enrolled in the 2+2 Computer Science and Computer Information Systems programs through RCTC/Winona State. Getting pretty good grades, but I can sure tel...Expand for more
l that I've been out of school a while. I'm an old man in most of my classes (eheheheh). Now I see why my parents kept telling me to pay attention in school, it gets a lot harder. Being out of school for 10+ years doesn't help much either. Oh well, doing the best I can and mostly enjoying it. Getting close to having the pair of AS degrees done and seriously looking forward to going back to work again and finishing up the BS's on the side. I've realized that school is exponentially more work than work ever was.
Workplace
Lets see, where to start... I guess the beginning was working with Jason Neshiem for his dad and for a few of his neighbors. Worked for a while at Sandy Point which is where I met the girl I would eventually marry. Worked at Budget Auto in Alexandria during the summer of '92. Bummed around for the winter of '92 and joined the army in spring of '93. Did a quite a bit of auto repair work in my garage for extra cash while in the Army. Ended tour in July of '96 and did some roofing with Complete Construction for a couple months. Started at IBM in January of '97 where I worked in several different areas until getting canned in December of 2001 which is when I started the gruelling work of college. Did some custom computer building and also a stint of computer recycling during this time. Started interning at SPSS in Rochester October of '05 and am still there while I finish up school. Really laid back place to work and I'm pretty good at what I do so I like it.
Update, intern position at SPSS went away so I'm searching for a job again. Finding out just how important finishing my BS degrees is. Did get divorced in November '08 and not particularly liking that but it seems like the lesser evil. Kids are great, doing pretty well in school and sports they participate in. I'm still in school and very much looking forward to being done. About a year to go so there is actually a light at the end of the tunnel now. Can't wait.
