Abraham's Story
Life
After graduation from Kenneday, I attended Patten University where I earned a B.A. in Biblical Studies/Graphic Arts and then CSU Hayward (now CSU East Bay) for a B.A. in Mass Communication, followed by four years at Stanford University where I earned a Ph.D. degree in communication research. Patty and celebrated 37 years of marriage on May 4, 2013. Our son Isaac, graduated in 2000 from Patten Academy and in 2004 graduated from Patten University with a B.A. degree in Communication. He is married to Carrie and they are expecting our first grandchild, Annabella Teresa in early April of 2014.
In Fall 05 I began teaching a communication course at Fuller Theological Seminary. I also began making academic quality control trips to Patten's extension program in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Part of the fun is running with the elephants and playing cricket.
In the community, I serve as chairman of the Board of Directors of the Latino Commission on Drug and Alcohol Abuse of Alameda County and teach disaster preparedness classes with my wife Patty for the City of Oakland Office of Emergency Prepare...Expand for more

Workplace
I am Dean of Academics at Patten University and I've been a part of this campus community since 1970.
My current area of research is women in ministry from the Wesleyan Holiness and Pentecostal faith traditions. I presented a paper at the 2008 Society for Pentecostal Studies conference entitled: "Women, Ordination and Church Polity: Empowerment or Gender Apartheid." I've written two books, "Women and the Landscape of American Higher Education: Wesleyan Holiness and Pentecostal Founders," (Wipf and Stock, 2010) and "No Room for Doubt: The Life and Ministry of Bebe Patten," (Seymour Press, 2012). I'm currently co-authoring a third book, "The Role of Female Seminaries on the Road to Social Justice for Women," (Wipf and Stock, 2014) with Dr. Kristen Welch. Two other projects are presenting a paper entitled, "Guardians of Holiness: Latina Pentecostals in the Pulpit and the Pew," and writing a book review of "Building the Old Time Religion: Women Evangelists in the Progressive Era" (by Priscilla Pope-Levison) for Pnema, the journal of the Society for Pentecostal Studies.
