Connie's Story
Life
I did not marry the guy I was engaged to in high school-I ended up marrying his cousin. The best things to come of 15 years of that mistake are my daughters Michelle, (age 36 , W.S.U.,& works in the c.d. dept. of a bank) and Kimberly(age 34, 2 years at K-State,11 years in the Air Force, now works in the sheriff's dept. in Boulder, Colorado). They gave me grand-puppies, but I have 3 grandchildren thanks to my step-son Ronnie,(age 30 works at Cox Cable) and Tonya ( age 28, works at Via Christie St. Francis). My husband Ron and I spend alot of happy time with the grandchildren. I retired as working foreman dispatcher at Kansas Gas Service (after 24 years) in 2003. I have always wanted to work in the schools with children, and I felt like it was time to go for it. I had attended classes at Friend's University and Butler County, but I did not have a teaching degree , so I became a para-educator at Goddard High School. lying to the Wichita school system for next fall. I hope to travel to Colorado this summer. When my daughter was in the Air Force, I had the opportunity to travel to Germany, France & Italy. I would like to travel to Ireland before I am too old-maybe someday. I teach kindergarten in Sunday School & also help with the Special Needs class there. I am lucky to have a wonderful Christian man,Ron. Gotta go now-May our Lord bless & keep you.
Workplace
Since writing my bio I have a position with the Wichita Public School System as an Intervention Para-Professional. I work at Lawrence Elementary, and it is my dream job! Doing something I love & getting my summers off, I may never retire for a second time! This summer I traveled with a group from my church to work at a mission Vacation Bible School in Jamaica. I certainly developed an appreciation for hot showers after we got back! We were gone for 10 days & met some wonderful, spiritual, happy children. They are very poor , but they make their own fun(like we used to do), and even though all their water is collected rainwater, their clothes and person are always clean! It was an eye-opening & once in a lifetime experience! 08-30-07
