Jacqueline's Story

After graduating from FHS, I went straight to work and did so for 3 years. It was probably the best thing for me right after college...i just was not ready. After those 3 years, i packed my bags and left Farmington, Michigan to attend college in Chicago. It's a great city with something to offer everyone, and I was clueless that it even existed prior to my first visit there. It's great -- although i still remain loyal to the Red Wings and Tigers! Not much into basketball! In 1990, I graduated from Moody Moody Bible Institute from their cross-cultural communications "missions" program. At that time i was living on the south side of Chicago where I stayed for about 12-13 years! Want a cultural experience -- move to the south side of Chicago! How insulated was i living in the suburbs of Detroit as a kid! And did you know that there is real mexican food out there -- not just Taco Bell! I've even learned a little spanish! I loved it and it was one of the best times of my life, learning a new culture and loving the familia based lifestyle! It was about 8 years ago that I felt moved to do just that -- move to the North side of Chicago -- about 2 miles west of Wrigley Field (i can't believe the number of people who actually like the Cubs...they're everywhere....and they come out like ants on game days...literally the streets can be seen filled with lines of Cub fans walking miles to their beloved teams stadium...they're crazy!) Needless to say it's a different world up here as compared to the southside. I was "lucky" enough to find an affordable place in an area that's beautiful and yet has that small feel to it...you know...coffee house on the corner, grocery store within walking distance, good neighbors....the lake just a 5 minute drive away (probably a 45 minute walk away). I love the lake! Everyone should have one! I've still r...Expand for more
emained pretty involved in music. Learned how to play the guitar...sing every sunday at church...play funny songs for my sister's kids. Music has been a constant in my life. I've traveled a lot: England, Scotland, France, Holland, Belgium, Spain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Yugoslavia, Greece, Turkey, Soviet Union, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Mozambique, and was 32 kilometers away from Italy (can't believe i missed that one). The most meaningful was spending 2 weeks in Mozambique (located in the south eastern portion of the African continent). Was able to spend time at an orphanage and just hold the babies...play with the 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 year olds. You should see the look on their faces when brought out the bouncy balls you sit on -- you know for relay races...their faces were like "what in the world is this????" There's a lot of poverty and need all over this world. It was most evident to me as i would walk into a room that literally held about 20 cribs filled with AIDS babies who weighed about 4 pounds -- broke my heart....and yet it was such a joy to see the laughing smiling faces of the older children as we played, had a little craft time, sang songs, taught them the chicken dance (they loved it!). My best advice for anyone? Get outside of yourself and give...find a place to give of yourself and love on someone who needs it! Other than that, i am still single! YEAH~ Right...not my choice but God has other plans for me I guess. I've learned that life isn't defined by whether or not i have a ring on my finger....life is too short to get caught up in whining over that. Right now i'm learning how family is soooo important....and occasionally i do travel back to my mom's house in Michigan! So....if anyone wants to do coffee, just drop me a line! Here! "They" will let me know! p.s. anyone ever hear of FACEBOOK...i'm there!
