Gail's Story
Married 28 years to Bob Kent, who I met in Newport News where I moved with my first husband, when he was in the Navy. When we split, I stayed on and he left. I never imagined I'd live in Virginia, but that's how it worked out.
I have three sons, ages 35 (Abram), 25 (Jordan) and 21 (Nathan); and one ADORABLE, SMART, BEAUTIFUL granddaughter, Cheyenne, 11.
If you remember Aiga Lehmacher, who was our first exchange student, you might be interested in knowing that I spent my sophomore year in college living with her and her family in Bonn, Germany, while attending an extension program from ECU. her own daughter, Katrin, spent a year in Atlanta as an exchange student when she was 16, and we enjoyed having her visit us twice in NN when she was here, then she visited again for Christmas the following year. I took my husband Bob to Europe on a ski trip when we were first married, and we visited Aiga afterwards in Bonn. Four years ago I took my son Jordan to Europe and to visit Aiga's family. They still live in the same house that Aiga grew up in. It was terrific seeing her (and her younger sister Resi who lives outside Berlin). I hope to go back again someday. It's on my "bucket list"!

own business, The Buzz Factoree, a public relations and marketing consultancy. (Check it out online at thebuzzfactoree.com.) I spent most of my career working as a journalist and PR professional in hospitals and colleges, but I love working for myself and having NO office politics. (My boss is a slave-driver, though...)
I got my MFA in creative writing at Old Dominion University in 2008 -- it took me EIGHT YEARS going one course at a time, but I loved every minute of it! If I could make a living by going to school, I'd do it. I love it! I write a humor blog at thatawkwardage.com called "Too Old for Pole Dancing. Too Young for Social Security."
I'm taking a stand-up comedy class, and graduation will be a performance at a real comedy club. I'm also training to run a marathon in two years when I get old enough at 60. I'm active in professional organizations and my church, Hidenwood Presbyterian, where I'm an elder and member of the choir.
My brother, Alvin, and his family still live in Hickory. My mother died in October 2010 from complications of Parkinson's. Interestingly, my husband also has Parkinson's Disease. It's not an easy thing to live with, but we try to take it as it comes.
