John's Story

Hello All I've had a wonderful, vibrant life. Susan, my wife of 20 years died in April 2008. Only now I have felt the need to share our family life. How strange it is to be on this end of the rainbow. I bopped around the valley for about ten years after high school. I think I've had every dead end job there is. I moved to Los Feliz after I left the valley and met my wife Susan in a bar in Hollywood. We moved to Seattle in 1988. Our kids Mariko and Lucas were born in 1988 and 1991. I was a electronics technician in LA and worked into management continuing in Seattle. Susan pursued artistic interests and we evolved our small businesses making silk screen dolls, art books, and eventually children's educational software. Our software was featured on the Today Show during the Winter Olympics. ...Expand for more
We got cancer in 2001. At first we thought to continue with our dream, but then decided that we needed to smash cancer first. 220 doctor visits between Feb 5th and Nov 17. We then realized we could no longer pursue our software business. I became a handyman and remodeler so I could be home four times a day for chemotherapy (was very barbaric back then). On reflection it was strange how your dreams could become unimportant in one minute. I eventually specialized in building custom home theaters (everything but hardware) and personal studios. My current interest is starting a gallery south of downtown. Although tiny in comparison to LA. The arts/ music scene here in Seattle is interesting and growing. I've decided that the second half of my life is going to be artistic and musical. John
