Judy Potts:

CLASS OF 1968
Beaumont, TX

Judy's Story

Hopefully, my friends remember the fun we had together. High school was a good time for me but I would never do it over!!! As a young kid I thought I wanted to be a nurse like my mom but changed my mind several times. In college (my whole 2 years of it) I thought about elementary education and possibly as a special ed. teacher, but I never did either! I did begin working for the Katy ISD in my daughter's elementary as an office paraprofessional when she was starting 2nd grade. I am still a para but as the principal's secretary for the last 17 years. I also do the finances for our school now since we had to lose an office para as of this school year. So much fun!!! I love to relax by watching shows I have taped and playing games on my computer or my iTouch pad. I find myself listening to book now more than I read them which I used to do all the time! When I work in my office here at school I have a radio on, some coffee or a soda to sip on while I do the daily items. I have lived in Beaumont, then southwest Houston, and then out here in Katy (or west Houston...). My dream home is where I am now but I would get rid of some of the "stuff" collected from the last 30-odd years in the same place. I work on this project off and on and still have lots to do!! The teacher I would most like to see again would be my 5th grade math teacher from Fletcher Elementary. Ms. Conklin not only taught math but was the librarian as well and instilled the love of books in almost every student she taught!! I have always loved to read books and now I also listen to them when we travel. If I won $100 million, I'd give ...Expand for more
10% to the church and then use the rest to improve life for those I love. Back in Ms. Conklin's class one day, she asked us each one what we thought we would be doing at the millinium year, 2000. None of us could even imagine what that would be like or that we would even be around at that time. But we are!!! When my daughter graduated from Sam Houston State University, she moved back home - oh boy!! With her came all her stuff from apartments and houses she lived in during college, 1 50 lb. Australian Shephard and a very over weight cat. This brought our household from 2 adults, 1 toy Peek-a-Poo, and 1 skinny cat to 3 adults, 2 dogs and 2 cats!! Talk about a full house!!! I enjoyed all the fun that went along with it for the last 6 years until this year when our daughter got her certification to be a teacher, was hired by another district, and moved in August to her new job and city. She took the big dog and big cat with her and we are now back to Steve and I, 1 small, very old, dog and 1 skinny, very old, cat. Talk about rattling around the house!?! Childhood memories are wonderful to have - playing all the time out doors with the kids in the same block (no TV, no games to hook up to the TV we didn't have) and if the weather was bad, stay in doors and read books. (Finally got a TV in late elementary - what did we do without one??) Didn't talk on the phone much until Jr. High age and in High School too - then spent hours on the phone with Debi or other friends. There are many, many memories and lots of friends in those memories. Hope your memories are as good as mine. See you all at the pole!!!
