Timothy's Story
To make a long story short
After graduation, I joined the Navy, I have always wanted to travel the world, what person doesn't dream about that. Well let me me be the first, or second to tell you, it's worth it! The Navy took me to places far, far away, of course our mission was to preserve Democracy and the great life that Americans have, it doesn't come without sacrifice. I have been everywhere in the U.S. been to Hawaii, nice place, if your not a local they will belittle you as much as they can get away with. If you ever get the chance, go to Hilo, very nice place, more country like than anything. If you ever wanna exciting lei, go to Germaines Luau, it's explains everything you ever wanted to know about Hawaiian culture expressed through dance.
Getting back to my adventures, like I said, I have been all over the world, my favorite places are Malaysia, Oman, Australia, and I would say Philadelphia. That is were I went to my trade school in Philly, welding. It was a great time, something about the philly cheese steaks, the best, no where can compare. South street was a great time.
I have been married 2x, once to a woman when I was 23 years old. I don't recommend knowing someone for 4 months, then deciding to bunker down with them! Needless to say I wasn't thinking with the proper head! The marriage ended after 4 years. My second wife, well that is a horror story all by itself. We knew eachother for a year, let me reimind you, I was still in the Navy, I lived in San Diego, she lived in Spokane. So we saw eachother for a total of about 2 months total over that year span. Anyway, so she moved down to San Diego, lived here for about a year, her grandfather was sick and not doing to well, so she felt compelled to move back home, plus I was leaving for 6 months on Deployment. I kind of understood where she was coming from.
During my 6 month deployment to the Middle East, about a month out, we were 4 days away from Korea, and I got the devastating news that my Dad passed away suddenly. Unfortunately I had to wait until we pulled into Korea to catch a plane back to the mainlands. I think that was the point in my second marriage where I lost interest in pretty much everything and everyone. Unfortunely she was involved. After the funeral and the grieving I had to meet the ship in Hong Kong and finish out the deployment. Once we were stateside, I put in orders to go recruiting in none other than Coeur D' Alene ID. I loved recruiting and I was damn good at it! Some unforeseen circumstances came my way, and I had to leave recruiting. With my head looking down, and my marriage in the toilet. I filed for divorce and went on my lonely way. I served a year at the NMCRC Spokane...Expand for more
until my orders came in to report to the USS Milius DDG 69 in San Diego. Side note: While being at the Reserve Station I met this gal, and we were dating. she turned out to be a real gem, (that's an understatement)
Once I reported to San Diego I moved off the ship and moved to Imperial Beach, CA I literally lived a block to the beach. I loved living there, I was at the beach every day. I never went swimming cause 2 miles south is Tijuana Mexico, and unlike US they don't have a organized sewage system in place, so living where I did, you are not surprised what you may see floating by! Anyway our ship went on a 6 month deployment, my second. By this time I had 13 years in the Navy, I was fed up with all the bologna that was going on so I was planning on getting out. During my 6 months that I was out I saved like crazy, remember the gem I mentioned earlier, yeah her well as I was saving everything she wa spending it on God knows what! So when we pulled back into San Diego after being off the coast of Somolia for 4 months, I received a Dear John letter. That was alright, cause it takes a strong individual to be in a relationship with a serive member. The part that tore me apart was that after I got out which was pretty much right after we pulled back in, was that this woman had spent all my money, I estimated about $28,000.
Now it's June of 2005, my money is gone, I don't have a steady job, and I am trying to make it back to Spokane, so I get on with life. Let me remind back to when I was on Deployment I had met Annette and we became good friends. Fast forward, alright so Annette and I start talking spending alot of time together, my relationship with what's her face is over. I move back home. I was ther for about 8 months and then moved back down to San Diego because the job market was so much better, I got a job right away working for a plumbing company. That place was a joke, so I started working at The Home Depot, honestly it's a great place to work, if you ever want to meet some captivating people and improve your people skills this is the place to be. I have been living here since 2006.
As far as my life goes now, I am enjoying it! I have a beautiful woman, a great little boy and a dog named Sara. I still miss home, my family most of all. There will be a time in the future that i will return to Spokane and live. Either that or move to San Antonio TX where Annette is from, it all depends on what life throws my way.
I hope my story will help summarize any curiosity that are out there. I come from the school of hard knocks. I hope everyone is doing well and take care of yourself, see you at our 20 year reunion!
My motto is
"What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger"
