Robin's Story

After graduation, I went on to Wayne State for my BS in Business Administration. I received this in Dec 1984. In August 1985, I married and moved to Mt. Pleasant so Ken (my husband at the time) could finish his schooling at Central Michigan. Once he finished in June of 1997, we moved to Phoenix, AZ. During my seven years living in Phoenix, I managed a specialty restaurant in Sun City, AZ for the first 2 years; afterward, I was a stay at home mom for our two kids, Patricia born in 1989 and Dustin born in 1992. I enjoyed living in Arizona; however, I missed my family and friends in the mid-west. We decided to move closer to home and eventually moved to Bolingbrook, IL (in 1994) which is about 30 minutes outside Chicago. Being back in the mid-west was great for I realized I really missed the four seasons. (It was 122 the day before I had Patricia and 115 the day before I had Dustin). I continued to state at home with my children. I babysat other children for extra income just as I had in Phoenix. I also became very involved with Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts; assistant leader, leader, service unit manager of 31 troops for Girl Scouts and assistant leader, leader, and cub scout pack treasury. I also was one of those soccer moms as well as a dance Mom. My son played soccer starting at the age of 3 and daughter started dance at the age of 5. I worked as a crossing guard for the Village of Bolingbrook for 2 years. Afterward, I went through an awful divorce. I went back to school full time and completed my advance accounting certificate. At the same time I worked part-time as an assistant to a controller of a resin corporation. During this time I still was involved with scouts, dance, and soccer. Sometimes I look back and wonder how I accomplished it all without losing my mind, but I survived. I decided to move back to Michigan with both my kids in tow (single mom with full custody) and moved in with my sister Jill and her family. During this time my focus was my children, a home of our own, and getting my CPA license. I received my license and am now a CPA, living in...Expand for more
my own home, and raising or almost raised my 2 kids. Patricia is now 21 and studying human services at Baker college and lives at home. She received the Dean Scholarship when she graduated from Edsel Ford High School. She has decided that she will be going on to law school after receiving her bachelors degree. Her career of choice is a Lawyer for Foster Kids and Adoption. She is currently working at family center for children as an administrative assistant. During her high school years, she traveled to Europe for 3 weeks as a good will ambassador with the group "People to People" and visited 7 countries. She loved England and France. She plans on going back and visiting Spain (4 years of Spanish) and Italy. As for Dustin, he graduated from Edsel Ford at 16 and Valedictorian of his class. He was accepted to Brown University in Providence, RI but decided to stay close to home. He is now attending of all schools, Central Michigan were he received a Centralis Scholarship. He is a Junior after one year of college. His plans are to double major in Neuroscience and Bio-med and minor in Mathematics. His career choice is to be a Neuroscientist. He is currently a volunteer in a lab that is doing research on Alzheimer. He plans not only going on to receive his master but a PHD as well as studying aboard in Japan and France (4 years of French). As for myself, I work only 7 minutes from my home as a CPA. Tax season is a little tough but other than that I enjoy my job. I take care of 24 corporate clients and growing and complete around 100 tax returns every year. I found out I have a congenital heart defect about 7 years ago. I was informed that most babies that are born with this do not make it passed 2 or 3. Well I guess I had and still have important things to accomplish. I am currently single but one never knows. Now that both of my kids are on their way to being the adults I know they were meant to be, I have some time to myself. Not sure what the future holds but looking forward to it. Well that is my story in a short essay. Thanks for looking me up. Have fun!!!
