Robert's Story
Since our wonderful years at William Penn, when we left the school after performing the musical South Pacific, life guided me in many directions. Working for ICI as a chemical operator after graduation paid for my BMAS from the U of D in 1984. Soon after, I won the Austrian American Music Scholarship Competition to study in Salzburg, Austria; and, after performing in concerts associated with the renouned Salzburg Festival and auditioning for agents and opera houses in Europe, engagements started to happen, one after another, that would keep me there for sixteen years. Google Robert Demers with opera or concert after my name to view all website details. Our teachers never knew what would become of us; but the opportunities they offered us, back in the day, certainly provided me the inspiration to have this wonderful international career in opera. I am grateful to them for all their hard work. am Penn a couple of years ago, and did a short program for some of the music classes. I began with Some Enchanted Evening, a song from the role I performed on the stage there in SOUTH PACIFIC where I was touched by the fire of the audience. I explained that this very school gave me the opportunity, through their music program and by the devoted trachers there, to perform the role that inspired me to persue an operatic career. With this career, I have been able to touch the hearts of so many people in Europe and other people who live in places around this globe and now again in this community. Recently, I performed in a benefit concert here with some friends in Wilmington and raised thousands of dollars for Breast Cancer survivors and the uninsured. More information about this is on my website. My contact information is at the bottom of the opening page. Life has forced me to return to the real world, where my career path now comes into question. I can say that I am grateful to be back in the US; but a part of me lives on in that wonderful dream of Europe that waxes nostalgic in my mind. I am happy that I can document some of my accomplishments on my website to share with friends and family. Hope to hear from you there.
