Joe's Story

Condensed events from start to went Left the family's nest, fell into next, Found a wife, then left her for life, Got a degree then decided to flee, Up to Oregon country. Met a girl, She took me for a twirl, Of nine years in a daze. Got another degree, Always good for safety. Left to Houston town, NASA bound, Got a job lookin at pixel dots, Of the world's agriculture crops; Was the Shuttle's 1st ride, It was the Country's pride, So our project died, And to Alabama I strode. Joined the Intergraph Team; Pioneers of computer graphics For engineers design; Not my kinda mind, But, the company became A craze of mine. It grew on me like good wine. Sent me round the world, To teach other pioneers, What to do To keep their digitals runnin smooth; Saw Paris, saw Madrid and Amsterdam too, Stayed awhile in the Middle East and the Far East, To the South tip of Africa, and Australia too. Twenty years passed till, Pioneering stood still, Their economics tired of me, And left me to my own to be. But, b'fore then, I met Ramona, a German friend, And wooed her to my side. That's thirteen years now, She's my wife and my pride. Sean, our eight year old son, Keeps this ole boy on the run, And that's the condensed me at fifty-seven And still young! Joez 8:10AM 5/12/2017 continued The years have come and gone, I’m still travelin on, Staying fit and having good health to lean-on, Spending years of serious time with my son Sean, Now in the middle of high school, and not yet gone, In his early years having melded into school’s homework firm, Working hand ‘n hand with him each term, Not giving-in, when he tried to squirm, Year by year his grades reaffirmed, What tough love and smart guidance confirm, Hard work and planned direction’s press, His start of high schools been a success, Now taller than I and less in distress, Cause his Dad’s backed-off, leaving him to express, The beginnings of adulthood’s very long progress, While still living through his teen-aged process. Every year I’ve continued volunteering at the 5th g...Expand for more
rade, The reward is for me as I came to their aid, I’ve also taught the chess club for all those years, We have fun in class to the little kid’s cheer, And I’ve started helping at the Learning Center, Taking-on less fortunate kids as a mentor, The time I give starts at the ground floor, To their up-road success, I help open the door. My wife just retired and we’re adjusting to the change, Of being around each other for such a long range, We each do “our thing” for many day’s hours, We’ve entered a groove that gives each of us power, To enjoy the simple stress-free hours. We are about to take on a six week trek, To Lisbon then Paris, Germany and give Denmark a check, So when you have this year’s reunion that’s where I’ll be, Enjoying retirement most happily. Ta-da 11:50AM 5/12/2017 4:50PM 5/12/2019 continued Well jeez, now I’m 67 and back, Actually, I never left the pack, Hardly seems I’ve seen the passing of so many autumn leaves, And with the years the passing of names in the breeze, Always been told it’s a one-way train, Yet youth never believes in such disdain, Luckily, I’m still healthy and sane. Got my only son walking his high-school graduation in 2019, I’ll be the Grandpa aged guy at the scene, But, I’ve known the parents of his class all along, So, I’ll fit like a glove on a snowy morn… nice and warm. As he takes his steps onto his new platform, At Auburn University where his life will transform, As a leader for the future, part of the new brainstorm. Life’s taken on EASY, in my retired way, Lots of volunteer tutoring with 5th grade kids in the day, Been coaching Chess at that school more than 10 years without pay, But the kids’ smiles that I share all have their way, Of adding sparkle to this heart that words can not say…. Can’t believe I was that kid a’walkin that yellow road through the years, Been plenty of laughter and many a tear, Guess that’s what makes life, “life” holding memories dear, Lucky to be telling tales with a mind that’s still clear… 5:40PM 4/19//2019 joez
