Rosa Elena's Story
Hi! Some of you may remember me, I remember almost everybody, school was like my home away from home (that's what happens when you're a late-in-ife baby and an only child). After Vis I went on to UDLA in Puebla, Mexico where I continued what I began in NSF at the Field Museum - Anthropology. Which unfortunately Icouldn't finish. Went to work back in Chi and then came down to help my parents settle down for their retirement in my Mom's hometown, Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico. Before I knew it, I was giving English classes and became an ESOL teacher. I have an international certification by Univ.of Cambridge and FINALLY am getting the chance to finish my degree by the school where I work at, The Technological Institute of Celaya, a Federal University here.
The city has been on the news lately (not in the best light - cartel battles) but it usually is a quiet middle size, commercial city with 10 Universities of different sizes and nothing else to do on weekends except go to the cineplex or coffee shops... can retirement destination. We have the malls, they have the culture and tourism(jaja).
I remained single(or left-out, whichever way you want to look at it, no problem), took care of my parents 'til they passed away (believe it or not, a true pleasure), was "mother" to my college age cousin's kids who lived with me while they went for their degrees generation through generation, and really like working at the Techno, for the past 24 years, because I've always been on the program and new material "creation" team, plus I get to teach the engineers and lawyers who are going for their international English certification for foreign studies, which is "cool". I just started giving the teacher's preparation course - which is another world...
That's about it _ I mean how can you summerize 40 years of living??? Hope you have all had something nice happen in your lives and have something nice happening to you now...We'll all meet again someday, have counted the roster here and we're almost all on it - 40th Anniversary Reunion???keep me posted (gotta get a visa for that now) have a wonderful life meanwhile. :-)
