Don's Story

i got married to karen wessel (class of 69) on may 18th 1968 we had three kids. i joined the army in jan 69 and went to viet nam in jan 70. i got out of the army in 72 and worked varies jobs until 78 when i got a job with at&t as an information operater then transfered to the enginnering dept. the at&t breakup in the early 80's cost me my job there as i didnt have the seniorety to be kept on. i applied and was accepted to the ca dept of correctionsas a correctional officer. (everyone who thought in high scool that i would end up in prison was right ,however i was a guard not an inmate lol). i worked 21 yrs at the prison working at four different prisons and being part of the team to open 2 of thos...Expand for more
e. when i started there were 13 prisons when i retired there was 33. i was a correctional sergeant for the laat 12 yrs of my career. i retired in nov of 07 and moved to crescent city ca. in the earlt part of 09 i came back to visalia to take care of my mother who had come down with demintia. shortly after karen started to show sings of MS it was confirmed and she started downward sprial getting asthema, enphasemia, chronic broncites, was put on 24 hr oxeygen and the final one small cell cancer. this all happened in 1 1/2 yrs. she died on july 14th 2010 and i moved to montata where i am now located. thats a brief look at my life its far more complicated that ive written but these are the highlights.
