Susan's Story
Hello everyone from my High School class of 1970 and Marymount College class of 1974.
Last I visited with my High School class was at the 20th CHS reunion in 1990. At that time I was living in New Hampshire for a short while (19 months) and then returned to Texas. Throughout my adult life I have been "on the road" living what I tend to refer to as a gypsy life due to relocating for jobs and school. I have now "settled" in New York State on Cayuga Lake in the "Finger Lakes region" of central New York. I have been here going on 12 years, the longest I have lived anywhere as an adult.
In 2008, I joined my husband in early retirement. That year I retired from teaching in the Art Department at Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY. I taught a variety of studio art classes there and started up their Art Education program in 2003.
I ended up with a passion for ceramics as an adult after my undergraduate degree in Fine Arts with an emphasis in sculpture. I pursued my clay interest in gr...Expand for more
aduate school at Ohio University where I received an MFA in ceramics and another in Art History.
Since moving into our retirement home on Cayuga Lake, my husband & I have been constantly working on the house! I haven't had any time or space for my studio so I hope to build one in the future and get back into ceramic sculpture. For the moment my creative energies are focused on redesigning the interior spaces of my home and attempting to do some landscaping on the exterior.
After settling in Central New York, I took up sailing again. I originally started sailing when I lived in California in the 1980's. Now it occupies my time in the summer months. My husband and I also have kayaks and we enjoy paddling on the lake too. I continue to cross-country ski and occasionally go downhill skiing during the winter months.
The northeast winters have begun to wear us down a bit so we are tossing around ideas of moving again. We hope to move to a warmer climate in the coming years.
