Tony's Story
Tony Maldonado.....I attended Northeast High School during my sophomore year only (1956-1957). I did not gratuate from Northeast but I would have been part of class of 1959 if I would have stayed there; however, I returned to school in Corpus Christi, Texas in the fall of 1957. I used to hang around with Archie and Lyle Tautfest, Roger Kness and Kenny Burns. I was the mexican-american kid who wore sport clothes to school (slacks, sport shirts, and open or closed vests), played sophomore basketball and ran track (miler/2 mile relay). Names I remember in school besides the guys I hung around with were John Irwin, Sharon Lovelace (I think we had World History in Mr Mason's class), Jackie Rickie (spelling ??), Janet, Wayne and Sandie Ackerman, Robert Hanson (lived next door on St Paul Ave), Louise (World History with Mr Mason), Fran Hess and many other first names but cannot recall their last names. I found some old school and other photos so I will post a photo of what I looked like then. These photos of course are over 50 years old. I returned to live with my parents. I returned to Lincoln during the 1959 Christmas Holiday (while in the Air Force) and was able to visit with Roger Kness, Kenny Burns, Sandie Ackerman and Archie and Lyle Tautfest's parents. I spent over 12 years in the Air Force. After getting out of the Air Force, I became a civil service employee,I went to Park College out of Parkville, Missouri, got a BS in Health Care Administration. After returning to Corpus Christi, Tx., I went to work for the U.S. Navy at their new hospital which opened in 1974. I met my wife in 1988 while I was considering a position over seas. That however changed. My wife and I were married in 1989. I worked for the government for a total of 39 years (including my Air Force time). I retired in 1998, 4 days after my 59th birthday. My wife also retired from a healthcare environment in 2006 with almost 41 years of employment at the hospital she was employed at. We have a daughter living in Denver and a nephew who is like a son to me (lived with use for a while) who joined the Army recently. My wife and I still reside in Corpus Christi, Texas.
