Barbara's Story
A brief history. I had a great childhood growing up in Devon. Sonja Swanson and Patty Sefcik lived on my street. We have spoken about our past and agree we were lucky, especially when comparing it to current problems kids face. We were carefree, didn't have the "stranger danger" to worry about. After high school I became a LPN. (Mom said, you don't know if you will like nursing so why not do what Jean Roche did.) Well I liked nursing and worked at Bridgeport Hospital in the Recovery Room for two years. Then went to Saint Raphael's School of Nursing. But alas, Jan Fugal was at Yale (too close), and as they say the rest in history. We married, went to Germany on a Mission for the LDS church. We lived in Berlin when the Wall was built. After Germany it was back to Yale for Jan to finish his BS. Then off to med school in Brooklyn wit...Expand for more
h me staying in CT with Sherri and Roy our two kids. Jan's history is my history too, so after residency Jan went into the Army. We liven in Maryland now having two more children, Jan Peter, Jr. and Kurt. After the military we went to Upstate NY and were partners in a heavy equipment business and a pediatric practice. When that didn't work out we came back to CT and opened a practice in Woodmont. Then we got divorced. Jan married someone else. I nevr remarried. Went back to nursing school and thirty years after graduating from high school received my RN. I had gone to college throughout the years I was married. Finally receiving my RN was to me a great accomplisment. I worked for several years and finally retired in 2005. Now I am a woman of leisure, and enjoying my twelve grand children. Life has been interesting to say the least.
