John's Story
I worked in Hotel Restaurants for about 10 years, a few odd jobs in between. Then worked in Pizza stores for another 10.
Going nowhere.
Went back to school (ITT Tech), got a degree in computers and have worked in the IT industry since graduating in Sept. of 1994. Smartest move I ever made. Much better income, much more rewarding work.
I have never been married and have no kids. None of the women that I loved, loved me and vice versa. Still looking though. Not that old yet. Things just ache more.
I ended up back East because a Company I worked for in Phoenix in 2001 (IBAHN - High speed Internet in Hotels) eliminated my job in Phoenix but wanted to keep me with the Company as long as I let them relocate me. I had stock options with the Company because it was a startup and I had met several people who had made de...Expand for more
cent money this way - So, I let them move me. Stayed with them 3 and a half more years and then move on. Good thing is I now own nearly 12,000 share of the company but who knew that you cannot sell shares of a privately owned Company except back to them, if they are purchasing stock back. So, I have to wait and see if they ever go Public or sell to a Publicly traded company. At least the company is still doing well, nearly worked me to death with no extra compensation (Salaried).
I then went to work for Qwest Communications in a DataCenter in Oct. of 2004. We were recently purchased by CenturyLink, who then also purchase Savvis. Savvis does nothing but Data Centers, so I now work for Savvis, a CenturyLink Company. Been here about 8 years. Well, that is a pretty quick synopsis of my life the last 30 years or so.
